Chiptune & 8-bit Music Lesson 4 of 4
Looping and exporting
Game music repeats — make the loop seamless, then export.
Game music loops: a player might stay on one screen for 30 seconds or 30 minutes, so the track has to repeat without an audible seam. Compose the end of the loop so it leads naturally back into the start — no awkward pause, no jarring jump, no click at the loop point.
- End the last bar on a note or chord that flows back into bar one
- Play the loop several times and listen specifically at the seam
- Trim any silence at the very start/end so the repeat is tight
- Export the loop and set it to loop in your engine
Tip Keep loops fairly short and let them repeat — a great 30-second loop beats a mediocre 3-minute track a player will only hear once.
