How it works
The extractor samples your image at a small resolution, then uses median-cut quantization to pick the most representative colors and orders them by how much of the image each covers. Raise the color count for a richer palette, lower it for a tight, focused set. Copy any swatch with a click, copy the whole palette as hex, or export a .gpl for Aseprite/GIMP.
Frequently asked questions
Is the color palette extractor free?
Yes — extract palettes from as many images as you like for free, with no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser.
Do my images get uploaded to a server?
No. Extraction happens on your device in the browser; your image never leaves your computer.
Can I use the palette in Aseprite or GIMP?
Yes. Download a .gpl file that imports straight into Aseprite, GIMP, and other pixel-art tools, or copy the hex codes for anywhere else.
How are the colors chosen?
The extractor samples the image and uses median-cut quantization to pick the most representative dominant colors, ordered by how much of the image they cover.
