The anatomy of a good SFX
Attack, body, tail — and why short and punchy usually wins.
A sound effect has a shape over time. The attack is the sharp front (the transient that grabs attention), the body is the main sustain, and the tail is how it fades. For most gameplay SFX, a fast attack and a short tail feel responsive; long tails muddy fast action.
Layering
Satisfying effects are usually layered: a high "click" for definition, a mid "body" for character, and a low "thump" for weight. A coin pickup might layer a bright ping over a soft click. Layering is how one sound reads as rich instead of thin.
