Game Audio & Sound Design Lesson 3 of 4
Looping music and adaptive audio
Seamless loops, and sound that reacts to what the player does.
Game music usually loops — the player might be on one screen for 30 seconds or 30 minutes, so the track must repeat without an audible seam. A good loop ends on a phrase that leads naturally back into its start, with no click or gap at the loop point.
Adaptive (reactive) audio
Advanced game audio responds to gameplay: music adds a combat layer when enemies appear, ambience shifts as you enter a cave, a low-health cue fades in. Even a simple version — ducking the music when a big sound plays — makes a game feel alive and intentional.
